Assistant Director of Development

Located in the middle of Boston (Fenway area), we are one of the city’s top colleges and are looking to hire immediately. This candidate will be responsible for the design and implementation of strategies for a program that will complement, enhance, and help grow philanthropy. Through the development of a combination of communications, interactions, and events, this candidate ensures that donors are appropriately acknowledged for their support, and develop long-term relationships with the University. Working together with professionals in alumni relations, annual giving and major gifts, the coordinator will work on targeted individual initiatives as well as programming for leadership recognition societies

Day-to-day Responsibilities:

  • Develop annual donor recognition plans in collaboration with Alumni relations teams.
  • Create and advise on using new strategies in communications (print and digital), events, recognition societies, and donor gifts.
  • Evaluate programs, provide year-end summary report(s), and make recommendations for innovative enhancements
  • Generate personalized correspondence which may include the development of cards with birthday, sympathy, congratulatory, or holiday messaging. Ensure timeliness of communications
  • Manage annual reporting on scholarships and endowed funds
  • Work with communications staff to share donor stories and recognition in a variety of channels including emails, social media, newsletters, press releases, and on the university and alumni websites
  • Research new addresses for constituents with invalid addresses


  • Bachelor’s degree along with 1+ years of professional experience in higher education
  • Previous exposure to advancement, development, or alumni offices is preferred
  • Experience using fundraising software and comfortable maintaining a high level of confidentiality at all times in regards to all personal information
  • Impeccable standards when it comes to attention to details
  • Understands how social media is used in a professional setting (previous experience managing social platforms is a plus!)
